Claude Pricing Plans 2026: Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise Prices and Usage Limits Compared

Claude pricing in September 2026 is split into four individual plans, Free ($0), Pro ($20 a month), Max 5x ($100 a month) and Max 20x ($200 a month), plus Team and Enterprise plans for organizations. All prices come from Anthropic's official pricing page in US dollars and exclude tax. Three things separate the plans: whether Claude Code is included, how much access you get to top models such as Opus and Fable, and how many times larger your 5-hour session limit is. In short, Free or Pro fits chat-heavy use, and Max fits people who run Claude Code all day.

Claude pricing plans compared (September 2026)

Claude plan prices in September 2026 are $0 for Free, $20 a month for Pro, $100 a month for Max 5x and $200 a month for Max 20x. Pro drops to $17 a month when you pay $200 up front for a year, while Max is billed monthly only. Anthropic's help center says Pro is shown in local currency where supported and that some regions include tax in the displayed price, so check the checkout screen for the final amount.

What can you do with Claude for free?

Claude Free is a $0 plan that covers chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, file creation and code execution, memory across conversations, Artifacts and app connections. Only Sonnet and Haiku are available, so Opus and Fable are out, and you can create up to 5 projects.

Two limits matter most. First, Claude Code is not included. Second, the official pricing page says Pro gives at least 5x more usage per 5-hour session than Free, which tells you the Free session budget is thin for long work. Quick questions and document summaries work fine on Free, but going back and forth over long files or running a coding agent requires a paid plan.

Claude Pro vs Max: Opus 5.5, Fable 5.1 and Claude Code

The difference between Claude Pro and Max is the usage multiplier and how you reach Fable, not the list of models. Both plans include Claude Code and Opus, and Opus 5.5, which Anthropic released on September 22, 2026, became the default Opus model in Claude Code. Anthropic says Opus 5.5 performs at the level of Fable 5.1 on most work and costs 40% less to run than Opus 5.

Fable is where the plans split. The official pricing table lists Fable on Pro as "Usage credits" and on Max 5x and 20x as "50% of weekly limits." On Pro you have to turn on usage credits, billed at API rates, to use Fable, while on Max you can spend up to half of your weekly limit on Fable. Max also adds higher output limits, early access to new features and priority access at high-traffic times.

How Claude usage limits and limit resets work

Claude usage limits are a two-layer system: a session limit that refills every 5 hours and, on paid plans, a weekly limit on top. Chat on web, desktop and mobile shares one pool with Claude Code, and the official pricing page says there is no fixed message count because usage depends on conversation length, model and features. The weekly limit resets once a week at a fixed time assigned to your account.

When you hit a limit you have three options: wait for the reset, move to a higher plan, or on a paid plan turn on usage credits and keep working at standard API rates. With the Opus 5.5 launch, Anthropic raised 5-hour limits on Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans and gave subscribers a rate limit reset they can save and use whenever they choose. A limit reset refills your 5-hour session limit or your weekly limit to full right away. Here is how to check it.

1. Open Settings > Usage in Claude on the web or the desktop app.
2. Read the progress bars for the current session and the weekly limit, plus the next reset time.
3. If you have a reset, check its expiry date and use it when you are about to hit a limit.
4. A used reset cannot be undone, and an unused reset expires at the listed date and time.

Using a reset does not move your weekly schedule, which still resets as usual. The best time to spend one is right before a limit blocks deadline work.

Claude Team and Enterprise plans use a seat model

The Claude Team plan is built for organizations of 2 to 150 people and lets you mix Standard and Premium seats. A Standard seat costs $20 per month billed annually ($25 monthly) and gives more usage than Pro. A Premium seat costs $100 per month billed annually ($125 monthly), gives 5x the usage of a Standard seat and allows Fable up to 50% of weekly limits.

Enterprise is priced differently. It charges $20 per seat per month plus usage billed at API rates, so the bill scales with which models people use and for what. Enterprise is billed annually only and adds SCIM, audit logs, the Compliance API, custom data retention and role-based access. Neither Team nor Enterprise trains models on your content by default.

Which Claude plan is right for you?

The right Claude plan is the one that matches how often you hit a limit in a day, not the one with the lowest price tag. Mapping the official terms onto usage patterns, ASAP's reading is this:

• A few questions and summaries a day: start on Free, and move to Pro once the 5-hour limit starts blocking you often.
• Document work plus occasional coding: Pro fits. $20 a month unlocks Opus and Claude Code, or about $17 a month on the annual plan.
• Developers running Claude Code through the workday: start with Max 5x. Chat and Claude Code share one pool, so on Pro a long coding session eats into your chat budget too.
• Heavy Fable 5.1 users: Max beats Pro. Pro bills Fable separately at API rates, while Max covers it inside the subscription limit.
• Teams of five or more: Team is easier to manage and secure than several personal Pro accounts. Giving Premium seats only to heavy users keeps costs down.

Between Max 5x and Max 20x, the price doubles while session usage grows fourfold. If you hit the 5x limit several times a week, moving to 20x is simpler to budget than paying API rates through usage credits.

Why the pricing page shows no message counts, and the limits of comparison

Comparing Claude plans is hard because Anthropic publishes limits as multipliers, not absolute amounts. The official page says Pro is at least 5x Free and Max is 5x or 20x Pro, but it never states the Free baseline itself. Long chats, large attachments, top models such as Opus and Fable, and tools such as Research all burn usage faster, so any "number of messages" conversion has no official basis.

Anthropic also states that it may limit usage in other ways, such as weekly and monthly caps or model and feature limits, and that prices and plans are subject to change at its discretion. After choosing a plan, watch your burn rate in Settings > Usage for one to two weeks and then move up or down. Upgrades take effect right away with unused time credited to the new plan, and downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period.
